Handmade in Finland from sustainably sourced birch, Secto Design’s sculptural lamps are now available through Switch.
Some lights you notice. Others change how a room feels. Secto Design makes the second kind.
This season, Switch is proud to add Secto Design to our lighting collection. The Finnish lighting house makes sculptural wooden lamps that hang in homes, restaurants, and hotels around the world, and now you can specify and order them through us here in Cincinnati.

A lamp born out of necessity
Secto’s story begins in 1995, when founder Tuula Jusélius met architect Seppo Koho. They bonded over a shared love of Northern wood and Scandinavian design, and started out making wooden furniture together. Their customers kept asking one question: where are the wooden lamps to go with it? None existed, so they made one. That first lamp, the conical Secto 4200 pendant, became the foundation for everything that followed.
Three decades later, Koho has designed most of the collection. What began as a small workshop in Heinola, Finland, is now a family-run factory of about 40 people, led by the second generation. Each lamp still carries a craftsperson’s touch.

Why wood changes the light
Secto lamps are made from certified Finnish birch. Thin slats of wood filter the light into a warm, layered glow, with soft patterns of light and shadow instead of harsh brightness. Switched off, each lamp reads as a sculpture. Switched on, it sets the mood for the whole room.
The designs are simple enough to suit a modern loft, a mid-century ranch, or a traditional dining room. That versatility is why Secto has become a favorite with architects and designers in more than 80 countries.
